Every morning, before the first customers arrive, the aroma of freshly prepared hill cuisine begins to drift across Khagrachari town. Families, friends, and travelers gather at Swapnachura, now one of the city’s most popular restaurants. Few of them know that behind its warm hospitality stands a young indigenous woman whose journey began not with opportunity, but with hurdles.

Neimra Marma never imagined becoming a successful entrepreneur. Life had other plans. The untimely loss of her mother and brother left her carrying the responsibility of supporting her family at a young age. Financial hardship forced her to put aside many personal dreams, but it never diminished her determination to build a better future.

With savings of only BDT 12,000, Neimra took a leap of faith. She opened a modest food stall in Khagrachari, serving fuchka, noodles, and traditional hill delicacies. She named it Swapnachura, literally meaning the Peak of Dreams. The name reflected not where she stood, but where she hoped to go.

The journey was not easy. Running a business as a young indigenous woman meant confronting social prejudice, financial uncertainty, and constant setbacks. There were moments when her dream seemed close to slipping away. Yet each challenge strengthened her resolve. Through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to quality, Neimra gradually won the confidence of her customers. What began as a humble roadside food stall slowly evolved into a restaurant that local people proudly call their own.

A turning point came when she was selected by Integrated Development Foundation (IDF), a Partner Organization of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), under the Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE) project, jointly financed by PKSF and the World Bank.

Under the project’s Young Micro-Entrepreneur Development component, Neimra received a BDT 5 lakh in business loan, enabling her to expand Swapnachura. Yet she believes the project’s 16-day training on Business Management and Entrepreneurship Development was even more valuable than the financial support.

The intensive program equipped her with practical skills in business planning, financial management, risk assessment, customer service, digital marketing, and modern bookkeeping. More importantly, it transformed the way she viewed entrepreneurship.

“The training completely changed my perspective,”Neimra says. “I realized that entrepreneurship is not only about earning money. It is about planning, saving, investing, and building something sustainable.”

Applying those lessons, she transformed Swapnachura into a modern restaurant. The outlet that once accommodated just 10 to 20 customers now welcomes more than 100 guests at a time. A children’s play-zone and a colorful aquarium have made it a favorite destination for families. Today, the restaurant generates an average daily revenue of BDT 20,000 to BDT 25,000.

For Neimra, true success is about more than business growth. It is about creating opportunities for others, especially women.

Today, 15 women work at Swapnachura, including 12 full-time and three part-time employees. She also offers flexible work opportunities to financially disadvantaged female students, allowing them to continue their education while earning. What began as a small food stall has become a place where women gain confidence, financial independence, and hope for a better future.

Neimra’s own ambitions continue to grow. She hopes to expand the Swapnachura brand beyond Khagrachari to Dhaka, Chattogram, and other major cities while creating even more employment opportunities for women. Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple. “Dream big, stay courageous, and never give up.”

Neimra Marma’s journey is a reminder that success is not defined by where a person begins, but by the courage to keep moving forward. Today, Swapnachura is more than a successful restaurant. It stands as a symbol of resilience, women’s entrepreneurship, and the transformative power of skills, opportunity, and perseverance. From the hills of Khagrachhari, Neimra continues to prove that when dreams are matched with determination, they can rise to extraordinary heights.
