Mohammad Jashim Uddin, PhD the Additional Managing Director of Palli Karma-Sayahak Foundation (PKSF), a position he has been holding since 2021. He joined PKSF in its early days in 1991. Mr Jashim’s position requires intensive involvement both at the policy-making and the implementation levels of this apex development organization of Bangladesh, which operates across the country with an annual financial portfolio of approximately BDT 12,000 crore. Since PKSF was established by the Government of Bangladesh and the FID Division of the Ministry of Finance is its overseeing agency, Mr Jashim has to work with the Planning Commission, the Finance Ministry, and the international development partners to help run the agency effectively. This provides him with unique knowledge of and experience in the financial policies and development operations of the country, which include enterprise development, social mobilization, advocacy and protection and human resource development, and the impacts of climate change. Enterprising and forward-looking, he regularly contributes to innovative organizational and operational planning for which PKSF is widely known.
Mr Jashim obtained his PhD in Economics from the Moscow Institute of Management, Moscow (currently renamed as State University of Management, Moscow) in 1990 and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the People’s Friendship University, Moscow, in 1987. He participated in many professional training programs at home and abroad both as a participant or as a resource person, and attended many international conferences, meetings and seminars. Frequently, he takes up academic assignments with the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management.
Mr Jashim extended his collaboration in many research activities undertaken by the Research & Development Cell of PKSF, as well as being actively involved in efforts to develop new financial products. He worked with Mr Martin Greeley from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom, Prof M A Baqui Khalily of Dhaka University, and Dr Shahidur Rahman Khandker of the World Bank on numerous PKSF research projects.
Mr Jashim is a life member of the Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) and the Soviet Alumni Association, Bangladesh (SAAB). He is also a general member of The Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) and is associated with many social and cultural organizations.
Mr Jashim has authored many articles on poverty alleviation, youth entrepreneurship, vocational training, education, health, women’s empowerment and community development. He has visited several countries for professional purposes and personal reasons.
