Micro-entrepreneurs expedite economic development: PKSF Chairman says at inauguration of microenterprise fair
PKSF Chairman Dr M. Khairul Hossain said that micro-entrepreneurs are expediting Bangladesh’s economic growth by meeting the needs of the country as well as exporting their products abroad. He made the remark while speaking as the Chair of the inauguration program of PKSF’s three-day ‘Shuponno Somahar: Environment-friendly Microenterprise Fair 2024’ which began at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka on 8 February 2024 under the SEP project. Highlighting the importance of enterprise development, Dr Hossain said, “About 25 percent of Bangladesh’s GDP is contributed by the country’s cottage, small, medium and micro enterprises and most of these are micro-enterprises.”
Managing Director of PKSF Dr Nomita Halder ndc delivered the welcome remarks of the program. She said that the fair has been arranged to exhibit and introduce the products of micro-entrepreneurs for expanding their businesses. Dr Halder urged everyone to follow the environmental guidelines prepared for the entrepreneurs.
SM Ferdous Alam, Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI), stated that micro-entrepreneurs should be facilitated since they have the potential to be tomorrow’s industrialists. He advised micro-entrepreneurs supported by various PKSF programs and projects to get BSTI certificates in order to ensure the credibility of their products to consumers. The DG also informed that one-stop service is available for micro-entrepreneurs in obtaining licenses.
Additional Managing Director of PKSF Md Fazlul Kader highlighted the context of organizing the fair by mentioning various activities undertaken by PKSF for the development of micro enterprises.
With a total of 77 stalls representing micro-entrepreneurs supported by the SEP project of PKSF and 47 stalls representing PKSF’s Partner Organizations, the fair offers a diverse array of value-added products to visitors.
The fair will remain open to visitors daily from 10 am to 8 pm until February 10, providing ample opportunities to explore the showcased products.
