Workshop on Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Desalination Plants
Workshop on Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Desalination Plants
Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) organized a workshop on ‘Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Desalination Plant (Reverse Osmosis System)’ at PKSF Bhaban on 20 September 2022. PKSF’s Additional Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader presided over the workshop while Deputy Managing Director Dr Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed moderated the event.
PKSF’s General Manager Dr AKM Nuruzzaman gave a presentation on the current status of the desalination plants installed by PKSF in the coastal areas of Bangladesh to address potable water crises in those areas.
Dewan A.H. Alamgir, Senior Management Consultant (Independent), also spoke at the event. In addition, engineers Yameen Farook and Shahiduzzaman provided insightful commentary on PKSF’s approach to setting up, running, and maintaining the desalination plants.
Md Fazlul Kader thanked all the participants for their valuable input and recommendations regarding the installation, operation and maintenance of desalination plants.
Salinity intrusion is one of the main reasons for the scarcity of safe drinking water in the southwest coastal region of Bangladesh. In addition, both ground and surface water are becoming unsuitable for human consumption due to chemical and microbial contamination. In view of this, PKSF has installed more than 50 desalination plants (reverse osmosis) in the coastal areas so far. As a result, over 60,000 people now have access to safe drinking water. In addition, another 20 desalination plants are being installed in the coastal areas. PKSF has taken the initiative to install more desalination plants. The Environment and Climate Change Unit (ECCU) of PKSF has already visited the potential areas for installing the plants. PKSF arranged this workshop to get the expert opinion on installation, operation and maintenance of desalination plants.
