PKSF Chairman participates in high-level GCF talks
The Green Climate Fund (GCF), founded under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), on 9 July 2020 convened a high-level global forum to explore innovative solutions to help developing countries finance a green, resilient recovery from the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PKSF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad was a distinguished guest at the virtual gathering titled “At a turning point – Catalysing climate finance in the era of COVID-19” and held on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the UN’s annual stock take of global prospects to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Noting that green recovery requires massive efforts, Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad pointed out that while “we need green recovery, otherwise we will be much more impacted by climate change disasters, we also need economic and social recovery at the same time” in order to achieve sustainable development.
PKSF is a National Implementing Entity (NIE) of the GCF.
Apart from the PKSF Chairman, four ministers from Africa and Europe, and three chiefs of international non-governmental GCF partner organizations spoke at the event.
Over 500 people from around the world joined the virtual forum.
