Ethiopia wants to replicate Bangladesh’s success in sanitation
Ethiopia wants to replicate Bangladesh’s commendable success in sanitation to improve public health. An Ethiopian delegation expressed this hope during a courtesy meeting with PKSF Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader on 5 February 2025. The seven-member delegation was led by Hana Harsemo, WASH Advisor, Amref Health Africa.
Earlier, the delegation met PKSF Additional Managing Director Dr Md Jashim Uddin. He provided an overview of PKSF’s diverse interventions. PKSF General Manager Md Abdul Matin gave a presentation on PKSF’s BD Rural WASH for HCD project.
Hana Harsemo, the head of the delegation, shared that 18% of Ethiopia’s people still practice open defecation. She praised Bangladesh’s achievement in reducing open defecation to zero and expressed her hope of using Bangladesh’s experience to improve the situation in Ethiopia.
