‘PKSF’s project will play a long-term role in dealing with drought in Barind region’: Food Minister
Climate change is one of the most pressing global risks of the 21st century. Bangladesh is extremely vulnerable to climate change. Among these, Barind region, especially Naogaon district, is one of the vulnerable areas due to climate change, said Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, MP. He also expressed hope that PKSF’s ECCCP-Drought project will play a significant role in combating the drought of Barind region by increasing the supply of irrigation water for household work and agricultural land through the conservation of surface water and the increase of recharge of underground water.
He made this comment in his speech as the chief guest of an Inception Workshop organized in Naogaon under the Extended Community Climate Change Project-Drought (ECCCP-Drought) implemented by PKSF on 6 July 2024. He also said that due to climate change, the incidence of drought is increasing in this area. As a result, fresh water is not available, water for agricultural land is decreasing. That is why irrigation management is becoming very expensive for the farmers. The food minister thanked PKSF for taking the initiative to implement such an innovative project in Barind region.
